I think the reason that Thomas doesn't "Scrappy Doo up the place" is because the writers either wrote him in with the intent of mocking inconsequential annoying new characters in cartoons, or because they quickly realized that that was the best use to put his character to.

I'd absolutely recommend it, although I feel like Runaway and Loveship, Friendship, Hateship, Marriage are the two most recommended of Munro's collections, and I haven't read either of them, or anything else of her's, so I can't speak as to how they compare with Too Much Happiness.
