Although apart from being dark, Finn trying to figure out how to give mouth-to-mouth to Gunter was hilarious.

Oh yeah, I know that there are plenty of homeschooling parents out there who aren't the least bit crazy.  I just assumed that most homeschooling parents who would have a problem with someone playing a character of the opposite gender in The Phantom Tollbooth probably fall into the "religious fundamentalist" category.

I can't believe that out of all the fictional premises that I've over-thought, I have never once questioned the premise of The Magic School Bus.

I also happened to watch a few minutes of Too Cute on Saturday.  My brother had it on while I was eating breakfast, lots of kittens meowing, or playing around on some vet secretary's desk, messing up her files and stuff, and it was so awesome because cats.

I made some decent progress on Infinite Jest (which I've been reading since the end of June) this week, and I think I'll finally be able to finish it this week.  Steeply's father's addiction to watching M*A*S*H complete with what in my inexpert opinion appeared to be schizophrenic delusions about M*A*S*H has somehow

In regards to the subtitles, seriously, they seemed like they weren't even done by a professional translator for this episode.  Apart from the random lines of dialogue that got skipped over, there were some times where the English translation's wording struck me as really awkward.  Like, according to Wikipedia,

@avclub-58deef2e771fccf51741836cedecf5e8:disqus I'm actually pretty excited to develop a division rivalry with the Devils.  We've met in the playoffs a couple of times for some (at least for a Canes fan) exciting series, and both our teams have given up embarrassing empty-net goals to the other's goalie in the recent

The possible Faulkner reference of "Absalom, Absalom, Absalom!" is also awesome.

@avclub-1922cc1dc1286b56a2d99b7f1aa0630c:disqus Yeah, that was Fred Jackson who got tackled IIRC.  But to be fair, we'd've probably beaten you guys two years earlier in Week 1 on MNF if Bills return man Leodis McKelvin hadn't fumbled the ball while unnecessarily struggling for extra yardage when we were up with under

Yeah, I can understand Kovulchuk wanting to return to his home country, even if he is playing against inferior competition, but the way that he did it, after you guys had let go of David Clarkson for Kovulchuk-caused cap reasons, and after you guys had given up your first rounder next year because of the stupid deal

Hey, we beat you guys that one time two years ago…and it was probably the most celebrated win by the Bills in over a decade, so with that in mind, fuck it.  Yeah, despite having some hope in EJ Manuel, I expect this whole thing to fail spectacularly.  I predict that at some point in his second season, Manuel's going

Ah, well then, that kind of sucks, but good to finally hear of a release date.  I'll definitely check out his Brakebills site.

From what I've seen of his stuff, Hertzfeldt's films have only gotten more profound and emotionally devastating as they've gotten longer, so I'm definitely looking forward to his feature film.  Everything Will Be OK is simultaneously hilarious and incredibly depressing/terrifying/somehow almost uplifting at the end,

But it didn't even contain any footage from the actual movie, did it?

He was on this show called ER.  It's pretty obscure, you've probably never heard of it.

@avclub-d9f98704e1610e7073dbee992ee1f381:disqus I have heard nothing but good things about JS&MN, and your comment just makes me even more excited to read it.

I don't know about the Clarke book.  I've never actually read Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, but I have a copy sitting literally within arms reach of me at this moment, and plan to read it after I finish Infinite Jest and read McCarthy's Suttree.  So, if the new Magicians book is delayed, I know I'll be reading at

Wait, wait, they're killing Smaug in the second film?  So the third will basically be just The Battle of Five Armies, random shit that wasn't in the book, and Bilbo returning home?

Isn't Girls a show that airs in the spring?  So it won't be back until 2014?

I can't wait for the obligatory 20 minute scene of the comic relief of the dwarves eating a feast in Beorn's hall.
