Yeah, am I the only one who thought that the Hispanic tropes used in this episode were slightly racist?

Yeah, but Rosalee also appears to like a lot of the same eccentric things as Monroe, she's just less openly eccentric about them. I imagine that even if she doesn't go crazy on Halloween, she would love Monroe's enthusiasm for the holiday.

It was at least clear that she was fluent, which is a lot more than I was hoping for.

Eh, I thought it was poorly read by the actress. And seriously, they had NOBODY on the entire Portland PD who speaks Spanish? That seemed kind of odd. Little things that seemed ridiculous really kept me from considering this to be a truly good episode. I mean, I gave it a B, and there's incredibly stupid writing…

Yeah, I'd say Harry Potter is almost as morally complex as ASUOE. It's just not quite the focus of Potter, and it doesn't get nearly as much direct attention as in ASUOE. The last couple of ASUOE books are essentially about moral ambiguity, whereas in Potter, moral ambiguity is simply there.

I believe at some point Sunny says something like "Buscheney" which was supposed to mean something along the lines of "a very bad man".

Thanks @avclub-f073b3649cb725798cf7bde9a1f8facb:disqus . I'm currently rereading the series, but only on book 2, and most of what I remember are her absurd claims in book 12 to be things like "a ballerina-princess-firefighter-dinosaur hunter-train conductor". I do remember her being one of the more hilariously…

Honestly, looking back on it now, I tend to look at a lot of the series as a deconstruction of basic plot structures. In the first book, Handler's telling a really basic children's story where the polite, intelligent, children are orphaned, put into a horrible situation, but just before they've managed to deus ex…

Why again was this seen as an insult? And was it Esme or Carmelita who started it?

Meh, I wasn't a huge fan of Carrey as Olaf actually. I thought he made the movie too much about making typical Jim Carrey voices and faces, although I really liked his Stefano character. And I thought the kids who played Violet and Klaus did a decent job, but they'd be way too old for the roles now. I'm assuming…
Well, it would appear that my ongoing aSoUE reread (only on book 2) will have to include TUA and TBL. Thanks for the advice.
