As I mentioned below, I had no idea of the significance of the date before watching this episode, but once I found out I asked my partner if he knew what happened on that day.

Indeed, you just go out of your way to hilariously censor everything else!

As an Australian watching the show, the date meant absolutely nothing to me, especially as the date it happened over here was a day earlier. ie May 4. Also, as Americans write their dates backwards - it takes a second to swap them around so the immediacy is lost as well.
