"Privateer" basically just meant "officially licensed pirate."

As a bit of an aside, Taiwanese cinema has a number of truly great filmmakers operating right now/recently, even if they aren't horror-based. Edward Yang and Hou Hsiao-hsien would be credible choices for the best director of the last 30 years worldwide.

The first Nancy Drew book appeared in 1930. The last successfulish Nancy Drew series aired in the late seventies. Septuagenarians are smack in the middle of the prime "Drew nostalgia" demographic.

The real case was certainly bad, but America is so lucky because its foreign policy does something new and mockable to embarrass itself every week! Those jokes are 90% of what we know about Australia, and people have been making them relentlessly for decades.

It's kind of suspicious that so many of the top 20 are non-unique one or two word searches. Enough Carries getting drunk and googling their own names seem like they could skew the data, for example.

Reagan's also the only Republican president in the last fifty years not to be a one-termer, near-universally derided failure, or an out-and-out disaster.

Someone being kind of an asshole in places I'll never go is unpleasant for maybe a dozen people or so. Self-righteous, unreflective religious types somehow have enormous legislative power.

I got Psyche. Kicked myself on Linnaeus, did a "I guess that makes sense" on guys and dolls, and wouldn't have gotten near FJ in a million years. It was a tough game on the big clues.

I'm not as anti-event as most seem to be. I remember when I was just a kid who liked comics, there was a real visceral thrill in seeing all my favorites team up to pal around and kick ass. I don't begrudge giving a — possibly mostly hypothetical — new generation a shot at that kind of excitement.

Sure, but seriously, "Straight outta not-Compton!" jokes were stale by 1989. 1991 if you grade on the "it takes white people a while to find out about stuff" curve. I know there's a movie and everything, but fuck, they could've called this "AW SHIT, White ball players be like THIS!" and it wouldn't have been any

There's a good chunk of the population that considers the mere possession of lots of money to be a virtue in and of itself, and once you're rich, you can usually buy enough positive media coverage to at least make a debate of it.

I mostly agree with you, so this is a small correction, but "The problem with what Shkreli and execs like him do is that too few companies produce essential generic drugs."

Formerly Chuck's.

At the point, the interviewee should've just asked for a real question. You know you're getting a bullshit answer to "What's wrong with you?" at a job interview, so why even ask?

There are so few straight horror shows on TV. It's not a coincidence that two of the first four listed here are mixed with other genres. But I tend to agree that TWD has stronger horror elements than most.

The difference between horror and action basically comes to how effective the protagonists are at fighting back. It's a blurry line with a huge grey area.

There are a number of parts the replicators aren't supposed to be able to replicate, including the fuel source, and they're supposed to be a big power drain, hence "hydroponics" and rationing.

I think this plays into how this is a shitty, self-fulfilling prophesy. Lots of comic shops have a sweaty, unwashed locker room vibe, and a lot of the clientele and even more unforgivably, the employees, just seem to have no idea how to interact with women without being creepy, condescending, or both.

I flipped through a couple of books like that. They were horrifying because I realized how many cases could go either way depending on any number of factors, and how easy it would be to let the most forceful personalities in the room talk you into whatever if you were tired, bored, and just wanted to go home.

The thing is, he's not really wrong on the facts. He just seems to be drawing the wrong conclusions from them. Because he's right; white celebrities/people are, on average, given much more slack when it comes to crimes in general. This is a provable fact.
