They really toy with pushing Charles over the line in terms of dick-ish behaviour. The cast members who hate him are 100% right to based on the way he conducts himself in rehearsal, but his scenes with Geoffrey are heartbreaking.

His scene with Anna in the very end — tears. The disappointment breaks me.
Thanks to this episode, I now have the peace of mind that in my old age I can still be staging seniors' theatrical productions. Just like William Hutt, but maybe without the heroin!
Yeah, as a producer, I would never work with that director again. But excellent television!
Gosh, but I love Nahum.
Oh god, just thinking about the corporate sponsor's speech about his wife, and Geoffrey and Ellen talking about R&J is making me a little weepy at work. Shit. I love that scene.
JERRY!
I had no idea he was a Soulpepper guy! Now I'm REALLY bummed I missed Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead!
"I must confess: I love drama." Perfect.
They throw in Drummer Hodge, to rest
Uncoffined — just as found:
His landmark is a kopje-crest
That breaks the veldt around:
And foreign constellations west
Each night above his mound.
ANNA. NO. STOP. HE'S NOT GILBERT BLYTHE, HE JUST LOOKS LIKE HIM.
HECK YES HE IS. I totally lost it the first time I watched this show, and even though he turns out to be a total juicebox, I will never be able to shake my undying love of him. GILBERT BLYTHE.
Yeah, I was referring to Banquo's ghost. I think this scene lays some groundwork for Ellen's outburst later that gives Geoffrey the inspiration for the staging of the banquet.
Geoffrey and Ellen's relationship is so well done for me, and it's based purely off of Paul Gross' and Martha Burns' performances. I'm sure they're talented enough actors to have chemistry with everyone, but the fact that they're married in real life just solidifies for me how much it feels like they KNOW each other.…
My interpretation is that because of the ghost connection, this show makes the argument that Macbeth is just as mad. I don't want to spoil you if you haven't seen things all the way through, but Geoffrey makes a directorial decision that is heavily influenced by his own brushes with madness and it makes the parallel…
I will seriously come here every episode for the rest of the season and re-state how much I love Jerry. LOVE Jerry. He's such a minor character but he completely makes this season for me.
He just looks like somebody's dad. I always want to give Jerry a hug.
I wish we saw MORE Ellen acting, but she really nails her Lady M portrayal in episode 5. Maybe it's because the "screw your courage to the sticking place and we'll not fail" scene is my favourite in the play, but it always gives me chills. And her costume is gorgeous, which has nothing to do with anything except that…
Given that my personal feelings about actors align fairly closely with Maria's drunken rant at the party in season one, the whole treatment of Henry's bloated performances and pompous attitude is just SO cathartic. His constant upstaging of his own director is just so unprofessional, and the resolution in episode six…
I thought the exact same thing. A bit outlandish, but COLM FEORE.
