Me hardcore Tarantino fan too, but after getting snubbed for Best Director and Supporting Actor, me not getting hopes up for any recognition. Then again, he in category with Kubrick and Hitchcock, so me sure that some consolation to him.

It probably does, but Roots last time anyone can remember someone dealing with slavery, and it come out 35 years ago. Most people under 40 not see Roots, which is shame. But it bigger shame that slavery only get addressed on film once in generation.
NERRRRRRRRRRDS!!!!!!!!!!!
Well said, @LurkyMcLurkerson:disqus .
Me can understand that, @avclub-6e8fb18f4f5788ce09ff72f8fdd81b4f:disqus . But me feel like one of great accomplishments of film is that it fit completely into Tarantino oeuvre, while also making audience confront slavery. He does repeat what he did before, but he adds layer of depth. Me not sure he able to do that so…
Doc, you just undermine own argument by having extremely intelligent discourse on slavery. Me agree with most of what you say, but me not think it reasonable to think Tarantino going to portray slavery way Ken Burns (or Spielberg) would. At end of day, it still Tarantino film, with everything that entail. Also, within…
@avclub-33807fbc68d335db8080d3c10cb78822:disqus , me already think it one of his best, maybe second behind Pulp Fiction. It feel like culmination of career in many ways. He study screen violence, particularly in Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill, and only when he master screen violence can he use it to make larger social…
COOOOOOOOKIEEEEEEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tarantino not show generations of slavery, because it not that kind of movie. It revenge story that take place over course of year, tops. Me would love to see movie that show long-term effects of slavery and somehow remain as entertaining as Django, but that not movie Tarantino intended to make, and criticizing him…
Me enjoying this discussion and me want to jump in. Showing slaves being slapped around for picking cotton too slowly A) not have any bearing on plot, and B) not have visceral reaction that seeing man torn apart by dogs have.
Me not really think so. Violence pretty self-defeating in Reservoir Dogs and Jackie Brown.
Django not 100% historically accurate, but big picture stuff - white people owned black people and treated them abominably for centuries - that pretty well-represented. Certain things (like head cages) Tarantino admit he borrow from different era than one story take place in. That pretty much acceptable filmmaking…
Expecting movie to change views on slavery is pretty tall order, when, apart from handful of hardcore racists, very few people not already have anti-slavery view. But it still have visceral impact. It difference between hearing that someone die in fire, and actually seeing them burn to death. One have lot more meaning.
Me not think Jackson's character not know any better, as @avclub-29501df08e5d9ae59e432e4f188d3735:disqus suggest. Me think @Scrawler2:disqus closer to mark, in that he make choice - maybe choice he feel like is best one, but choice nonetheless - to become what he is. Me didn't think his attitude was "me love slavery,"…
That's true.
Neckbeard wins comments for today.
Honestly, even that me have problem with.
You know what they say, were is hell.
Good God, Lemon! You haven't lived! If there one thing me recommend apart from cookies, it cajun food.
Fancy coffee culture pretty new thing, but it definitely thing people aware of, and raktajino certainly nod to it.
