ZM, you were way off with this one. Way off.

We read Stainless Steel Rat in my high school english class back in '83 or so. I think it drove our teacher nuts. He was an old-school authoritarian (nicknamed "Moose") and he wasn't down with freewheelin' intergalactic hi-jinx. Anyhoo, contrasted nicely with The Chocolate War. Good times.*

Yeah, Molly's more of a Whispering Bob Harris, if WBH was into cowboy hats, Egyptology, and shithouse music. I never got the sense Molly was particularly passionate about music; just passionate about interviewing celebs.
That show was insufferable. I caught one of the faux band's videos on Rage before I was in on the 'joke' and thought "these guys are like a lame satire of indie hipster dickheads", and guess what, I was right.

Don't believe I've ever heard his music, but his album covers are familiar to me from second-hand record stores around Sydney - makes sense, now I know a little more about him. But I'll be checking his stuff out now - sounds right up my alley.

About 15 years ago I was sitting in my car on Oxford Street, Paddington, in Sydney. In a bit of a Sunday-morning-daze, I looked up at the guy leaning against a street sign next to my car. It was Hugo Weaving. He met my gaze and slowly smiled.

"I think it’s a good reading, especially given that one of the most memorable (and funniest) images in Jimmy Corrigan is of Superman leaping off of a tall building and falling to his death."

That book rules, but it's gotta be a 4-season arc on HBO.

Great interview. His books are total brain candy, but they do get kind of same-y after a while. Each and every one of them contains the lines "I cradled the blower" and "I left the cat in charge", and a bunch of others.
