I think you nailed it. From the episodes I watched, there was a lot to like and there was seemingly a lot of potential for character development.

Evil Ed…Roddy McDowell and Chris Sarandon were aces in this. Loved this flick and I remember seeing it on VHS in the 80s (because a buddy was raving about it and brought it to my house to make me watch it).
