It takes a tremendous amount of cojones to come right to the AV Club, Internet haven for tweedy intellectual discussions dissecting comic books, video games and Saved by the Bell, and say flat-out that you "cannot gain anything useful" from pop culture as opposed to reading ancient Greek tragedies.

That's actually the problem — I don't know that she's a writer.

The point is that the people who do not, in fact, find Hannah & Co. relatable aren't just saying "Oh they're terrible people", they specifically feel alienated because of issues of class and to a lesser degree race.
