I wouldn't necessarily assume that the rest of the series will come off any better, but the general public basically reacted to the first seven episodes the way you did — that's why, after a promising pilot, the show did so badly that it was yanked from the air and all but canceled. The turkey episode did well enough

Cheap cable sitcoms are the successors to the syndicated sitcoms of the '80s, except those seemed kind of endearingly bad (not all of them, but at least they had robots and aliens and were pleasingly insane). The new crop seem a little more cynical too - FX isn't even hiding the fact that they have contempt for shows

I think what era you prefer is often related to what relationship you consider the core of the show — Mary and Rhoda or Mary and Lou. Mary and Rhoda definitely seemed to dominate the first couple of years. After Rhoda was gone, the show was fundamentally about Mary and Lou. Also the writing style changed a bit in the

I always felt like Sue Ann's part in this episode would have been done with Phyllis if she hadn't been away on her own show. With Rhoda and Phyllis gone and Mary in a new apartment, the sixth season was constantly trying to create new recurring characters (the closest they ever came was Penny Marshall as a wacky

It exists because "Modern Family" was a hit and suddenly there were a couple of years where everything had to have a baby in it. This seems to be wearing off as producers realize that babies aren't funny and rush to SORAS them into wisecracking little kids instead.

Even though I read fullhousereviewed.com every week, this is starting to make me appreciate "Full House" a bit. That pilot did a workmanlike job of delivering the exposition about three lunkheads raising children on their own, followed by wacky hijinks, the crisis of the week, and the heartwarming resolution. Cheesy

I don't really see how what I said could be true or false (though I realize that "it's just a matter of opinion" is a dodge). I mean, I'm *not* in my right mind, but considering one comedy a B- or C+ and another one a C+ or C isn't one of the biggest reasons.

I think they're pretty similar in intent (not style, of course) and both got better as the season went along, but "Whitney" managed to have some funny scenes and a relationship (the main one) that feels like a relationship human beings might have. I think it and "New Girl" have some of the same issues but the writing

I kind of thought he escaped unscathed, critically. I still think the show is not as bad as its reputation (better than NEW GIRL, anyway), but even the people who hated it tended to hate everyone except him.

CBS and ABC canceled everything intelligent at the end of the 1981-2 season. It wasn't just POLICE SQUAD! — ABC canceled TAXI and the Western comedy BEST OF THE WEST and BOSOM BUDDIES (okay, not a "smart" comedy, but often an offbeat one) and BARNEY MILLER, and CBS canceled WKRP and LOU GRANT. I think the programmers

A couple of years ago someone posted some clips from the POLICE SQUAD! pilot followed by a clip from the M SQUAD episode it was based on. I knew that AIRPLANE! was ZAZ's spoof remake of ZERO HOUR!, but I didn't realize they did the same for this episode. But it's a good technique. They bought the rights to some
