I love Hart of Dixie to an embarrassing degree, but I kind of wish they would acknowledge the Mayor is black without making it an issue. Like, there's a middle ground between Very Special Episode and Post-Racial Society. I don't want much of the former in my fluffy CW shows, but maybe the occasional nod?

But who actually gets an arc or proper treatment as a character? I haven't watched since season 5 but love interests (let's not talk about the one-off in season 1), angels/demons who are developed, other hunters who are developed, etc. I loved the show but it's white even for Vancouver. (Zing!)

I haven't kept up with Nikita, but I find this happens on a lot of shows. They start out with a diverse cast but somehow start whittling them down. Lost did this, off the top of my head.

I completely agree with this. I felt like it started off with the broad humour but really hit its stride when we got to know the characters and the jokes moved away from stereotypes. Most sitcoms take some time to take off, and I was very disappointed it didn't get another kick at the can.

Pudi is actually half-Indian, and Abed is actually half-Palestinian and half-white.

"a chocolate bar with coconut filling"

Fitz is the AT&T of Presidents.

It's the performance, more than even the character.

And now I will be tickled by the idea that men make me breakfast or take me out for brunch out of concern that their performance wasn't up to par.

"Allowing" implies a certain passiveness, and thus I deserve compensation for doing so. I mean, if you weren't good at it, by all means, and god knows I'll never turn down pancakes, but hopefully the sex itself was recompense enough, and the pancakes are just being a good host.

Yeah, it seems like an unpopular opinion in these parts but I find her Cheryl knock-off unnecessary and unoriginal. It's startling how almost entirely the performance mimics Judy Greer's.

How has Mariah Carey not been mentioned??

Ditto, that and Boardwalk Empire, spot on.

Calling it now: I have good money on Aladdin and Jasmine being fairer than Andrews.

On a scale of 1 to Timothy Olyphant, he's rocking around a -27.

I was thinking this as well. This episode introduced a bunch of new characters, and they're all white, alas.

I can't decide if I'd rather he appear in ill-fated, good shows or be a regular on a really, really bad one.

I did not know Cracked was Canadian. I'm definitely gonna check it out now.

I don't think it's a stretch to say that white quarterbacks are treated differently by the media than black quarterbacks.
