Oh man, I love these guys. One of the great unsung, "not as big as they should have been" bands. It's funny though, for me, this is the album I listen to the least of theirs. After the first 2 songs, I find it to be their most inconsistent. I don't know if that's because of the long delay and roster change, but it

There's actually a pretty funny music video my girlfriend's brother made in tribute to the show. The level of detail in this thing still makes me laugh. She showed it to me before I'd seen the show and everything went over my head. Then afterwards, I watched it and of course caught everything.

Yeah, I went through 6-9 episode runs with this show. Entire days would go by while I watched this thing. It really was impressive the way they kept making you come back for more and more. It's the storytelling and even more so, the performances. I loved Ben for just being a weasel for as long as he was and yet, you

You know it's funny, that is actually the one thing that I found lacking from the experience. I experienced it pretty much entirely on my own and even when I would mention my personal theories as to what happened to my girlfriend, she'd refuse to tell me anything for fear of spoiling anything. I figured I was right

Re: Breaking Bad…I agree that early on things feel pretty oppressive as we're primarily dealing front and center with Walt's cancer and the choices he makes as a result. In any event, if you're enjoying it now, just keep watching. You're in for some good times.

The weakest points to me were beginning of S3 and S6 with the temple stuff.  It was cool to see John Hawkes out of nowhere though.

Sweet, a Lost thread. I just finished the series over the weekend myself and I was glad I decided to watch it. During the initial run on TV, this show was so hyped that I was resistant to it and when the finale aired, I heard so much grumbling and complaining about it that it made me glad I never started. Then my new

@avclub-d542a3419c3ad57206a96bcc86155ebc:disqus I initally was bugged by JGL figuring out Batman's identity when nobody else seems able to, but then upon further reflection, I started to wonder why more people didn't figure this out. Batman disappears and Bruce Wayne just becomes a recluse. To me, it's like people not

Parquet Courts are fucking awesome ('forGET about it"), they have a swagger and an attitude to them that I really like. I'm jealous you got to see them live, I hope to at some point.

"And that's that."

I can't think of Wang Chung without thinking of To Live And Die In LA, which is just fine by me. Loved that movie and its soundtrack. That was the first movie for me where I saw a twist of that nature and it really struck me as a powerful storytelling choice. It gave the movie the realism that had sort of been eluding

Man, I tried getting through Infinite Jest and it's dizzying trying to keep up with this guy's style. It's not like anything I've ever encountered before. I'm 250 pages in and I still don't feel like I've made any progress with it. I liked what I read to that point so I'm encouraged by that, but those footnotes kinda

Yeah, that's a combo I'd put up there as well. Those were genre-defining albums. It just goes to show you how difficult it actually is that when you actually pull it off, you're pretty much launched into the pantheon of great artists.

I'd put Beats up there as having aged really well, there's stuff on there that could have made it onto their first 3. The Love Movement suffers from being the weakest album by a group that made masterpieces. If anybody else made that album, they'd be throwing raves at it. It's a good album but it had a lot of

Low End Theory or Midnight Marauders?

Of course he killed it, his track record's longer than a DC-20 aircraft.

A Tribe Called Quest has one of the greatest 1-2-3 punches in music history in any genre. How many album runs can top that one? And Beats, Rhymes, and Life is pretty great too! All of hip-hop owes a debt to these guys. They were goddamn brilliant.

It was through Alice that I stumbled upon King's X actually. I like them a lot, it's too bad they didn't quite reach the level of success as Alice (who happen to be my favorite band). Very cool band nonetheless.

Do you know if they actually fixed it for the Blu-ray? I've meaning to get it but holding off.

I also liked Nickelback's first album. They had a cool thing going on until "How You Remind Me", which sent them into desperate hit-seeking/pandering ever since. Shame. But yeah, there's something about radio rock that I dig too. I don't always need potent lyrical commentary, a lot of times I just want riffs.
