Reading the books I never doubted for a minute that the Hound had a good heart beating under that hard exterior and wanted to help Sansa. He was always the "bad guy makes good" type character. I actually felt they were pounding too hard on the Hound = bad element for his reversal to be easily plausible.

What happens to David in season 4 is where I pretty much checked out. I originally really liked the first season, but liked each successive season less to the point where I just hated the show there and quit.
