No, they KNEW halfway through Season 5 that it was the show's final season. So, they wrote the rest of the season that way, including the cliffhanger. At the time, they had no intention whatsoever of continuing that story. Much like Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid.

A LOT of evidence in this episode points to Damon having some level of control over her. (Especially that "I'm not worried about it so you shouldn't be either" line.) I enjoyed the episode if only because the women of the show seemed to have more screentime and they made the most of it. Jessy Schram gets better every episode and Autumn Reeser is still a badass. But I think Daisy Betts is the one that's improved most since the pilot. She really got to show her range in this episode

It didn't really bother me because, I mean…at least it wasn't an ipad. Apple's stranglehold on product placement(even in commercials for different company's products!) is quite disturbing.
