I know his writing style. I just sometimes want to know what's actually going on in a story before all the pertinent facts are swallowed in snark and gimmick.

I may be the only one who feels this way, but sometimes I can't stand O'Neal's articles. I wrote this elsewhere, but all too often I can't tell what a story is about underneath his gimmick way of telling it. Snideness can be fun, but he takes it way too far, to the point of obfuscation.

My continuing problem with O'Neal is that sometimes he can be so committed to his gimmick or bit that I have no idea what the news he's reporting actually is. This was yet another one of those times. For a good 3/4 of the article, I thought Grisham was himself arrested for looking at child porn.

Yeah, I had heard Rock Lobster before (and even Roam), but they still seemed more novelty to me than anything else. Then when I was in college my buddy DJed a party and threw on Dance This Mess Around. It blew my mind.

Dance This Mess Around is one of my all-time favorite songs—hearing it for the first time as when I discovered the B-52s were more than just Love Shack and were actually awesome (not that Love Shack isn't a pretty great song itself).

For christ's sake, I wish people would get over the ending. A lot of shows end poorly. Who fucking cares?

It often seems to me that Sepinwall does exactly that—act like the show was personally made for him alone. Or that all shows are, rather. The way he takes ownership of the television he consumes (and expects that television to conform to his vision of it over all else) is what annoys the crap out of me about him.

@Tjardus Greidanus seems to have gone to a day camp, whereas my dad's camp was a sleepaway camp. It doesn't surprise me in the least that there are multiple stories like mine (involving many summer camps) out there. Pete was just that kind of guy.

Even beyond that, he was actually friendly to everyone in need of it.

He wasn't a drag queen. He was a starving young actor who couldn't get any big parts. That was the only way he could find an affordable apartment.

I'd say seven in a row, because I'd add Washing Machine to that streak. I fucking love Washing Machine.

Agreed. I love Dirty, but it sounds fairly different from even the other SY albums of the 90s era. I do think they get closest to their "normal" style on Theresa's Sound World, though.

Hey Joni as well. Lee Randaldo's little yells at the ned of each verse, and then the way the song breaks apart at those moments…when he yells "hey!" or "kick it!" I get that rush feeling.

Yeah, agreed. I'm not sure what Super Hans was going at here. I like those Glenn Branca albums a good deal (especially The Ascension, though Lesson No. 1 and some of the Theoretical Giurl stuff is pretty good too), but while Sonic Youth owns him a debt, they took it to a whole other level.

Though I agree that Goo is the Gateway, I love Sister. Schitzophrenia is amazing. My favorite song on the album (and possibly my favorite Sonic youth song), though, is Cotton Crown.

Totally agree with one tiny reservation, and that's this: even better is when they return to that riff right after the break halfway through the song . That moment never fails to give me a rush when listening to it.

It's 21 hours from St. Cloud, MN to Montauk, NY (Farhampton is not a real place, but I imagine it's supposed to be east of even East Hampton. And the only place east of East Hampton on Long Island is Montauk). That's not including the fact that they slept over at Ted's mom's place. It's 12 and a half hours from St.

Go fuck yourself, O'Neal.

Nick at Nite was great. I loved watching Get Smart and Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore. Now it's reruns of Friends and Yes Dear. Real fucking shame what happened there, too.
