Same age also. I had a friend with a similar story as @Futurechimp. He filled me in. It wasn't till a couple years later I saw it late at night on cable. I was able to catch it at a midnight showing with El Topo later on in the 80's.

Those original Heavy Metal stories are so wonderful. The way he airbrushes color in is just beautiful. After Wrightson he's probably my favorite comics artist.
