This actually doesn't bother me - they kind of covered for this with Sheriff Bud talking about Sookie's parents: lots of vampire-related deaths were dismissed as other things when nobody knew vampires existed. Much harder to keep such deaths quiet when everyone is looking for them.

I, for one, am looking forward to next season's Hoyt storyline where he returns to Bon Temps pursued by an Alaskan bounty hunter (Obumchuk?) who - twist! - turns out to be a Sasquatch.
