Oh, good goddamn: Jason AND the Scorchers…
Long Ryders/Jason adn the Scorchers
The Long Ryders did an amazing version of "Sweet Mental Revenge" on their Native Sons album. And speaking of which…
They've been trying to do a "crossover" episode for a while, acc. to some interviews, but the schedules haven't matched up. Dawn and Tim were supposed to show up sometime in Season 3, I believe.
Yeah, they played it on Encore (which is the outlet Starz). It works so much better with the full presentation. And it's on my DVR, too. Been there almost 7 months, which isn't even close to The Apple's 2 year run (or 200 Motels').
Doctor Who Fans
As listed above, a virtual cornucopia of okay-to-all-right-to-fucking horrible stories comes out today. The Space Museum/The Chase contains two stories from Hartnell's era, one a verrrrry low budget attempt to stretch out a decent idea for a story far beyond its breaking point that features a young…
Whither Pulsar?!
Both ROM and Micronauts were damned good comics. That first 12 issue arc in Micronauts with Michael Golden's art is still freaking great. And ROM was damned entertaining and surprisingly moving at times.
THE JOHN LARROQUETTE SHOW was great. A real attempt to make a dark, emotional sitcom that worked most of the time.
There's always some Direct-to-DVD superstar that's ready to take her place in it. Someone from Glee, perhaps?
Well, there are purely historical stories throughout the first 4 seasons of the classic series, such as Marco Polo and The Crusades, which are amongst the best the show ever produced. I don't think the new series will ever go that way, since Who has become so related to sci-fi that to not include some element of it —…
Yes, "froth". They bubble up like a nice broth. Sheesh…
Schedule
Noel, how are you watching these? Are you just watching two eps at a time, or are you watching them in the chronological order in which they were aired? That's actually kind of important this season, as a lot of episodes have storylines and themes that jump back and froth over the season.
You know, I haven't listened to Hard Nose… or Wavelength in a while. I'll give them another try. It might be that they just pale in comparison to the ones before and after.
By the way, hoodooguru, your new album kicks ass. Best since Magnum Cum Louder.
iTunes had most of that stuff up, including Hard Nose… — where that cover comes from, and which is probably his worst album — and Wavelength, his other 70's dud.
Either Moondance or Into the Music would certainly work for this, but the second half of Into the Music approaches the Sublime at points. The 1-2 punch of "Caravan" and "Into the Mystic" on Moondance is pretty damned close, too. Astral Weeks is his best album, but probably not for beginners. And — damn — has any…
Into the Music
Sorry to disagree, but Into the Music is a much better entry point. It's accessible, brilliant, and the back half is some of the best music ever. Moondance's smart embracing of the pop format should come next, and then Astral Weeks. AW is an amazing piece of art, and one of the best albums ever, but not…
My friend and I laughed our asses off the for most of the film, while the rest of the theatre silently looked at us like we were morons. How can you not laugh when Neil Patrick Harris walks out at the end in his barely-disguised Gestapo uniform, places his hand on a giant bug and says,"It's afraid." Then, turning to…
Which is exactly how far you should check, or expect major disappointments.
I believe Jenny Agutter's contract specified that she had to do a nude scene in every film of the seventies. And Michael York tried to have it added to his.
