Oh, where has love gone, where has love gone?

I love how Shatner underplays the tension towards the end: "Gentlemen…I suggest you beam me out." Much better than frantic yelling, which would be the norm in most cases. It's obvious how much he trusts his crew to get him out of there in time.

That happens alot with these episodes. Millions of people die, and they just add a joke or comment at the end. That's the way Tv worked back then — no worries about coninuity from show to show, since there was little chance of reapeat viewing until syndication really kicked in in the late 60's. The way the show should

Seriously excellent post, danrimage, although it held up a lot more than I thought it would. I remember watching this when I was a kid, after Doctor Who on Sat. nights and "getting" that I was watching something that was really good. I think the reviewer is spot on about the first season being by far the best, but I

'Under The Milky Way" is a pretty good sampler , and hits most of the highs. If you like most of that, "Heyday" and "Starfish" are both fantastic, with "Heydey" hitting some real melodic highs. Avoid their early full-length albums, which are mainly homes for singles, and especially avoid "Magician Among The Spirits",

Dude! Did you you work with him on Stalker?

Read anything the funksters say about how to play funk and they all say that you slam the one — the first down beat of the measure in a four-beat pattern. James Brown lived that way. Malmsteen never claimed to play funk; the DMB does. My point was that too many so-called dance/funk bands think you have to play a lot

The music cue as they steal the Enterprise out of the station in III is an awesome thing.

They did a book sequal to ST 4 titled "Probe", where they follow the probe back home. It's a decent read.

Watching the first film on a big screen, caffeined up for the slow places, is a great film experience. I'm not saying the film's fantastic, but seeing it on a big screen, lights out and sound blasting, was pretty damned cool. It's a good audio/visual experience that is simply attempting to be too 2001, when it needed

MST3K
THe MST3K version of this is awesome, with evil-Gypsy hitting on Tom Servo, and the Mads having to sit through the film.

Yeah, it was one of the hardest games ever. All you could do was just start firing as quickly as possible when the level started, so the damned fast thing didn't have time to move out of the way.

No, Dwight cut just a bit too deep in the first place. Thus, the staples. And the blood.

It's because they think that "lots of notes" equals success. The truth is that funk is as much about reserving the notes for when you need them later.

Agreed. Let's Take It… is the best way in. I love Mothership Connection, but it's a bit too easy. You need some of the weird to balance out the happy funk. "Get Off Your Ass And Jam" is so funky, you can smell it as the CD plays.

Wow. That's a hell of a purchase. Possibly the best funk for your buck ever.

FOLIAGE!!!

"I'm too excited to sleep."

P & R doesn't work as well as it should because it's too stylistically linked to The Office. As a "regular" sitcom, the thing might soar. As is, it's too weighed down by the limitations of the formula, and hasn't gotten over them, yet.
