Any movie about the Beatles would likely get burdened by actors trying to do terrible impressions and terrible accents, and would probably rely on the stereotypes about the band. The Beatles' own movies give a far better glimpse into their story.

It's not fiction, but Stephen Fry did a very interesting documentary a few years back called The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive. He spoke to doctors and other people who have it, but the most interesting were his descriptions of his own illness (no surprise, considering what an articulate and charming storyteller

The right wing wants us to believe that anyone who uses a social service is just a lazy, petty malingerer. Everybody on food stamps on welfare is just a cheating lazy ass trying to get that sweet, sweet welfare money (which we all know is a stupendous amount!) Stupid people who use the ED are just whiny liars who

The last time I went it was for a migraine. I was just out of grad school and was paying about $80 a month for the cheapest Blue Cross plan I could get. I was there for a few hours, got IV fluids, an antiemetic, and whatever painkillers and walked ended up with a $2,000 bill.

If anything, it shouldn't exist because CBS already has a show which does the Holmes pastiche thing much better. Elementary is like a watered down The Mentalist.

CBS has fans? I thought it existed so retired elderly parents like my own have an excuse not to talk to each other for a couple of hours each evening.

I thought TV has taught me that black dudes were the socially acceptable partners for Asian women.

The two series are allowed to exist at the same time, but that doesn't mean people won't compare and prefer the clearly superior one. It's not a grade school art show, no one has to pat Elementary on the head and tell it that trying is enough. You're on the A.V. Club - if you get offended at people criticizing

The point of the Doyle's stories is that they were supposed to be adventures, not cases. It was essentially, "What mess has Holmes and Watson gotten dragged into this time? Where are they going to go, who are they going to meet?" rather than a procedural where we cared a lot about the victim and why the perp did it.

I didn't quite understand Myles' comparison to House. I'm not a doctor, and from what I understand the medicine on House was pretty ridiculous. But since I'm not a doctor, that was the fun of it to me - I didn't have a good clue where most of the episodes were going or what diseases were most likely to be "suspects."

Judging by the still above, I guess they tweaked Lucy Liu's wardrobe from the pilot, too. Goodbye baggy sweaters, hello cleavage?
