I suspect the exercise is in projecting what we can onto the show, maybe in an attempt to justify the predictive powers of science fiction? Certainly, there's a degree of prescience to a lot of DS9, for example. This could be similar.
I'd rather not just post publically, because then I get a slew of people who want to join, and I don't just approve willy-nilly, and nobody every seems to look in their "Other" folder in their messages, and I'm not paying a freaking dollar to ask someone who their AV Club name is.
