Actually, I did see some scene from The Wire on YouTube where some kid comes home and his mom's on the phone and he goes into his room and sees that she bought him all these nice clothes and then he just starts playing Xbox, and even that two-minute scene that has virtually no dialogue yet seems to convey their entire

This better be the theme song. And the whole movie, basically.

Well, yeah, but syndication — at least the kind that a studio would factor into greenlighting anything — only really applies to the same mass-audience stuff that would do well on first airing, and anyway, syndication is only really a factor with shows that end up with over 100 episodes.

Well, what about the aftermarket?
I don't really know if this is within the scope of your analysis, Noel, but what about the fact that, in both mediums, how the content sells AFTER its initial run is half of the equation?

@nuclearhobbit

It's incredibly daunting. Even just The Wire alone intimidates me to the point where I can't bring myself to start it.

Yeah, maybe it was overkill, but nevertheless it was good, eloquent, clever writing — and isn't that all we care about?

See, this is actually true — that is what we're hired to do — but the root of the problem is really that the older generation is pretty much oblivious to it. I dick around all day, do two hours of solid work, and I still get a pat on the back.

You guys realize this whole thread is just free market research for the TV execs, right? "All right, it's confirmed. Sex sells! Pass me that million dollars."

Honestly, Heather Morris is the only reason I maintain any interest in this show. Yowza.

"Sheer coincidence"
" the band Arcade Fire performed "Month of May" — only to… surprise… win the category and, in a moment of sheer coincidence, happened to be prepared to perform "Ready to Start." "

Pretty sure she (Hector the Well-Endowed) said, at one point, "And then I take out my enormous member…"

Lopsided laughs
The movie pitch section had me in tears, but the whole second half of the episode wasn't nearly as good — a shame, as I usually love Karl's Diary bits.

I can't think of any possible way they could adapt the Houynhymns part, if only because most of it is all about naked humans acting like savage beasts, and this is, after all, a family movie.

Crazy, right? But I tuned in for the season and the show's actually pretty entertaining and extremely well produced. I can't imagine watching it EVERY season, though.

Fabio's a pothead!
One of the jury members wrote "420" and drew a crude bong on their vote for Fabio.

Nice!
I know it sounds crazy, but I think Paul Scheer is one of the best performers around today.

I agree with Todd. In my household, we've got me, aged 18-49, my dad, in his fifties, and my grandpa, aged 82. Dad and I will watch Mad Men and Daily Show/Colbert and sometimes The Office together, and he'll sort of watch In Treatment with me, but after that our viewing habits diverge — he'll grudgingly let me flip to

Loving this feature, guys
So, literally the one opportunity for actual, interesting drama—Flynn struggling with his demons—was conceived by ZH in this review and not the show itself?
