I always want to watch anything with him in it. But Thief is the one thing he has done since Homicide that was worthy of his work on Homicide- mind you, I haven't seen his show with Raymond because it has Raymond in it.

Homicide should definitely be the subject of a TVCC. It's one of the landmarks of the medium's development and is undoubtedly the best network drama of the 90s. I'm inclined to agree with the "It got too soft" camp, especially with regard to the last season, but it was always one of the best shows on, bar none.
It is, but the point of the books, which take as their jumping-off point The Golden Bough, is the similarity, rather than the difference, between cultures. I'm not certain at which point this terminology became obsolete, but the books were written in the late 1950s/early 1960s. The books are best read in order.
In his early, scholarly work, at least, Campbell suggested not that all religions were true, but that they shared a series of common referents linked by something resembling Jung's notion of the collective unconscious. Jungian archetypes could be isolated by textual analysis of the world's myths, and then used to…
That Bieber! Always Getting into Wacky Shenanigans!
Why just last week, he told his manager he was going out for some gelato, and his manager said, "Justin! You can't! They'll see you and they'll tear you apart!" Then he said, "PSYCH! I'm having one of my assistants get it for me LOL! I'm so lonely."
Low, Station to Station, and Ziggy are virtually equal as far as I'm concerned. Station's lyrics depict a speaker on the brink of collapse, and its sumptuous melodies and lush arrangements help bring those lyrics a spirit of high drama that's missing from most of his work. Bowie often sublimated his feelings through…
Zola Jesus is amazing. I don't care for Kurt Vile, though. The experimentalism that makes Fucked Up's music so engaging beyond its basic ability to kick ass is owed to their interest in a wide variety of musical styles. Owen Pallett plays on Hidden World.
We in urban central Kentucky call that… okay, that's fair.
There is a difference between the national myth and the local myth. I was arguing that the local myth is disappearing as small communities come to resemble the national whole, and that The X-Files then serves as a kind of anthology of America's last period of local folklore. The series engaged the national myth, too-…
Yeah, this was a much better movie than Inception. This one didn't get lost in a 35-minute hail of bullets in its last act and has more than one character with a personality in it. That's not to say that Inception was a bad film. It's very good. Even when it's just a handful of cross-cut action sequences, it's very…
I think "Musings" is a comment on conspiracy theory in general and those of American politics in the late 20th century in particular, like a comic version of Delillo's Libra.
I'd put "Home" at second- or third- best of the season, after the masterpiece mythology episode "Zero Sum" and, possibly, "Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man."
"Home"
Todd notes the duel effect of Mulder and Scully's appearance in the town where "Home" is set, both as saviors from the menace of the Peacock family and as precursors to the homogenization of the community. We've noted here in the comments and Todd and Zack have noted in their reviews the carefully composed…
It's an excellent movie, but I wouldn't say it's the best I've seen this year. It's one of Fincher's masterpieces or near-masterpieces, probably not as good as Seven or Zodiac but close enough.
The fact remains that most members of congress are only glancingly aware of the details of the legislation they argue over and vote for, and that they often let party leaders or even-less-educated constituents decide their votes. Our society decries "activist" government while nevertheless voting consistently for…
Hmm… What jobs are open right now?
…Plumber… No, I haven't got the knuckles for such work…
Electrician… I might get electrocuted…
Satellite installer… I really hate driving…
Bookseller… That's a joke…
Ah, I'm getting disheartened. I suppose I'll actually read this thing.
Hmm… My Congressional district is open… Pay is in 6…
The original film is a masterpiece. Even if this is quite good, you should still see the Swedish version. Also, Netflix Instant has the correct subtitles, and so does any DVD whose subtitle listing says "Original Theatrical Subtitles."
In ten years, the phrase "the world" will be synonymous with "Twitter," much like my name will be synonymous with "cannibalistic sex scandal."
Man-Nipples on Parade
Pat Robertson asked the Christian Coalition to boycott, but the entire rest of its leadership threatened to resign if it did.
So, The Truman Show.
You wrote that, Andrew Niccol, and it was a fucking masterpiece. You think we'll let you forget that? STOP WRITING MOVIES WITH TERRIBLE TITLES THAT RECYCLE YOUR OWN IDEAS AND ALSO THE TERMINAL STOP THAT MOVIE FROM EXISTING SOMEHOW BECAUSE IT IS AWFUL.
