@avclub-bde03a31feb6259716046ea17db6e426:disqus  I am not enormous fan of PKD, but I thought Man In The High Castle was a good read. It touches on a a lot of his signature themes and doesn't require any kind of prior knowledge.  I just wouldn't start with anything from the 70s or 80s.

Just got back from a Mutilation Rites show, which was a lot of fun but probably did irreversible damage to my ears.  Openers Shadow of The Destroyer and Typhonic Age played great sets as well.

So many films from the '90s are about characters not being spiritually fulfilled by their six-figure-income jobs, and can be startling to watch now.  Fight Club was probably the most I've ever enjoyed watching a movie, but it was definitely of its time.  American Beauty is another one that's surreal to watch now.

Book Thread Question:  How much Nabokov should you have under your belt before starting Speak, Memory?  I have a few novels of his on the shelf, but have only read Lolita.

Lawless was good enough. LeBeef played an intentionally annoying character too annoyingly, and I was half expecting Hardy and the other brother to disappear him out in the woods. Enjoyed everything else about the movie.  Hunger Games was better than I expected, despite some awful shakey-camera action scenes.  I also
