Plenty of us criticize Christianity. And obviously Islam is taking plenty of shit in the west.

Christianity began as a cult of Judaism. "Cult," like "propaganda," didn't start out as a slur.

"These scenes … don’t even rise to the level of sketches; they’re more like skits."
Serious question: A skit is smaller than a sketch? I never heard that comparison before.

I'm in about the same position as you, Dik, so thanks for spelling it out that way. I say get your oil changed by a pro, but wait until you car reaches the recommended mileage before having it serviced.

"I'm OK with it" = "I will punish you if you do."

I thought that shot of Denzel rolling on a dolly was ridiculous, but otherwise it was a good-looking film.

Reminds me of a scene in "The Big Night" where (I think) Stanley Tucci's character is having a conversation at Ian Holm's desk and there's a fluorescent desk lamp blocking Holm's face from Tucci. It's quite distracting to the viewer and at the time I wondered why they would frame the shot that way when BAM Holm bats

David Berkowitz heard voices. Or one, anyway. The dog. Anyway, there are movies about people struggling with mental illness. This is a story of a killer who's schizophrenic. It would be a stretch to infer from it that all schizophrenics are killers.

@ganondorf, maybe you should try it again. Some movies, especially mindfuckey ones, are better on a second viewing, and Cloud Atlas could be one of 'em. (I liked it the first time, but YMMV).

Nitpick: No Marines in the European Theater, so "D-Day soldiers."

Dack, with all the asterisks, I kept waiting for a footnote at the end, but it never appeared. So does "trans*" mean "trans[one of many possible endings goes here]"?

What the hell is with the registered-trademark symbol on "Academy Award®"? You're allowed to edit quotes, you know—at least to remove ridiculous affectations like ©, ®, and ™. Sheesh.

Unless you're privy to some amazing new knowledge, I think you mean "uranium fission."

I don't see why "I don't care what it looks like" is a bad answer, or insufficiently supportive.

I can attest that it's possible to work in marketing/PR for a perfectly worthy institution and still have it destroy your soul. Being a whore for a good cause is better than being a whore for a bad cause, but you're still a lying whore.

This discussion is not about [my pet issue]. Therefore you don't care about [my pet issue], and are a terrible person.

If I were pimping out my twin toddlers for $9K/month, I wouldn't brag about it.
