I'd love for there to be a multi-party system, but the problem, to me, seems to be the candidates themselves. I watched the third-party debate for last year's presidential election and found the candidates to be not at all ready for prime time. Far too many of them have little to no experience in elected office, and

I agree with the review here. I actually thought the reveal at the end was kind of beside the point. It didn't matter why Sheldon wasn't upset. It didn't really matter at all what the situation with the DVD was. I think Sheldon saw it, and that we were supposed to see it, as a MacGuffin. He was very honest with

There is the theory out there that the reverse is true. That this particular secret was kept to protect them from the backlash against casting a white guy as Khan. I know JJ Abrams is addicted to secrets, but I could see one more secret being used to this end.

I could see him arguing that his being in the credits would also give the impression that he's too much on the side of the crew, and not ambiguous enough.

Yeah, but why have him audition for the role in the first place if he's clearly playing someone who was not ethnically white in the prime timeline and was not supposed to change. As with Kirk, the new actor even has blue eyes.

The problem with Into Darkness wasn't just the lack of character development, but the Hollywood risk-aversion, which caused them to whitewash Khan.

I've been thinking of checking this out. It sounds interesting.

If the DS9 Companion is to be believed Brooks didn't have input in that way, though he certainly did in the finale.

Good point. I took "directed by the lead" to mean "directed by the lead of the series." I'd be curious to check back through the episodes directed by Frakes, Dorn, Auberjonois, Robinson, McNeil, Dawson, etc., to see if any of them directed episodes in which they played the protagonist of the episode's story.

It'll be 16 in February.

I found I read these differently now. Instead of looking for the pink posts I look for the blue "Show x new reply(ies)" button. If I'm interested in checking in on my conversations sometimes I'll Ctrl-F my screen name.

Okay. Well even there, Sisko is recovering. The events and surgery in Rapture messed him up pretty badly too.

"I didn't believe you with that description. 'He must be exaggerating for comic effect,' I thought to myself…"

…in the traditional Cardassian manner, no less.

Absolutely. It's depressing how we've regressed. Part of it might have to do with the abundance of choice and the stratification of media into extreme niches.

Like Roger Meyer's, Jr., but sincerely?

I think Colm Meaney did fine, except for the American accent. That was a bit like Michael Palin in the Mr. Neutron episode (my go to impression for bad American accents by people from the Isles).

Brooks directed 9 episodes of DS9, starting with Season 2's Tribunal, and including Season 4's Rejoined.

The DS9 Companion talks about how the producers gave this episode to Avery Brooks to direct because he had the passion for the project. He wished it was even a two-parter, saying that it was a story that could be told in a completely contemporary context. He meant the 1990s of course.

I'm actually kind of surprised Robbie Coltrane isn't Joe Gargery in this.
