FWIW, I'm the same age as Jake Lloyd.  The vast majority of kids our age loved Episode I when it came out, and preferred it to the earlier films, though I slightly (and now more than slightly) preferred the original trilogy.  Sounds like he mistook playful joking for cruel teasing.
