Most-told lie in all of gaming: Link to the Past holds up as an enjoyable game. It was hugely influential, blah blah. But at this point, the formula it created has been done much better plenty of times. OoT wrote the book on 3d adventures much like LttP did for 2d adventures, but it, on the other hand, still holds up…
Agreed. Morrowind is basically a masterpiece. It had fantastic and varied environments, such a rich world and mythology. Oblivion lacked character, basically being one big ugly forest with a relatively bland story. Plus, the best way to play Oblivion was to build your character as a mage, then play as a fighter (or…
I'd say Ringu is much scarier. I was pretty young when I saw it - it was before The Ring came out. The use of sound, the atmosphere, it's all much less formulaic and much subtler and creepier than The Ring. Watching the Ringu final scene was so terrifying, I felt like I was having a waking nightmare - like reality…
The sequels are obviously weaker, but it didn't help that almost no one really followed the plot revelations in the scene with the architect. Go up to any person who claims to have seen and/or enjoyed the Matrix trilogy and tell them, 'it was crazy how Neo being the one was the 7th iteration of the Matrix, etc.' and…
I agree. I loved the book because the sense of wonder and magic is generally overwhelmed by adolescent boredom and a tone that I found almost painfully dark. Seems much more likely that Fox basically wants the Harry Potter movies: the series. Doesn't help that the most serious tone struck in Thor was equivalent to,…
30 Rock pilot was great. Although I found it much funnier when I went back and rewatched it after seeing several seasons. American The Office peaked with the pilot, then gradually got less funny as the show continued.
I think it's worth pointing out that this article, at least the way I read it, is not about Wilco and Radiohead specifically, but more about the archetypes they represent which the rest of indie can be abstracted into - like a critical thought thought experiment. I liked it because I can relate to how "Radiohead-type"…
Radio Cure and Poor Places aren't exactly top-40-ready
I went on a mid-college adventure in Peru myself. We didn't really have the budget to stick to the touristy activities, so it was mostly just grimacing at the horrific poverty, taking 12-hour bus rides, getting stomach problems and altitude sickness, and dutifully drinking lots of Inca Cola.
Ok, I haven't seen this episode, but I do know that a whole lot of people absolutely loathe Bill Maher, usually because of his smugness, arrogance, etc. Well I'd like to defend Bill here. I think that's part of the persona he's selling and I don't mind it. Better to be genuinely honest and iconoclastic and smug about…
Agreed. Lots of well-liked recent comedies like 30 Rock, Arrested Development, Curb, and Always Sunny have too many jokes too quickly and often too subtly (like the characters talking over each other in Sunny or Curb) to have a laugh track. Louie, though, is an interesting example, since the stand-up parts of episodes…
This is the part of the show I really can't stand, and the reason why my former roommate loved it. The gun-porn is twice as bad on that show Sons of Guns though.
One of my least favorite scenes in the show. We get it, AJ is a pussy.
Ignore it! It's just something the body does when you shake it.
new cloud type!
May you be dishonorably beheaded in front of your daughters.
You know what, Barney? Give this guy a cigarette, he's freaking out… Barney, he's the guy who tipped me off to Pepe Silvia
