To me, the genius of CBB TV is that every episode has a theme and it's a one off theme and then everything resets each week. These characters will be back. This is just another special themed episode.

I'm starting to think the title was more just as a broader perspective, Phil was "The Last Man on Earth" but then Todd showed up but in his mind, Phil will always be "The Last Man on Earth". That's how I see it.

Exactly, Phil being an asshole is fine but his intentions in these two episodes are flawed. It's basically "Phil tries to have sex with Melissa at all cost while making it be okay with Carol". And I mean poor decent man Todd is being bullied by Phil and that's not cool.
