Because one of the accusations about the movie is that it presented Jews in a very negative, clearly racist broad brush. That, combined with some of holocaust denial comments by Mel's dad, led people to complain that the movie and Mel were both antisemitic.

His dad was crazy? Is that where all this crap comes from?
