Like @avclub-782066c88e9c574d6085f3ddfc7032e4:disqus I watched The Usual Suspects after finishing it, I was so (not-literally) blown away by it. Kevin Spacey gave a great performance (just as good as American Beauty, which is more of an unfortunate omission from this deeply flawed list).

I saw The New World few years ago (pre-Avatar) and quite enjoyed it, so I was disappointed when I was squirming in my chair during Tree of Life, silently begging for it to end. I've only walked out on one movie in my life* (The Deep), but that came close.

Really? I hated The Tree of Life, so I'm not planning on watching any more of his. The New World was OK I guess, as a sequel to Pocahontas.

You're probably right about this (and I can tick off nine of these). However, with a few exceptions this whole list seems heavily America-centric to me, so it isn't particularly convincing as the best movies of the 90s. Cut out the exceptions, add the missing in action. Like American Beauty.

I've seen 10 on today's list, if you count Barton Fink, which did nothing for me, so I'm not sure if I finished watching it. It put me off the Coen brothers for years.
