Studio interference you say? Will look out for a director's cut so perhaps. There were things I like (the creepy dude killing trick or treaters and his son, the bus scene) but the things I didn't like (the werewolves, the climactic fight with the sack boy, ANY FUCKING CGI) out weighed them heavily

Bar possibly Rage that's pretty much a list of my favourite King novels. Don't see that in a young Dosteovsky, do you?

Was I the only one underwhelmed by Trick r Treat? Loads of praise for a fairly rote, 1980's-tv-with-bad-cgi mehfest. I do like horror anthologies as a genre, but TrT was horror by numbers

Could do without the odd amateur freudisms also. An excellent early novel though. Such a solid run for an early novelist when you think about it, as the long walk was pre-Carrie.

I quite liked Cell. Simple enough, gory as hell and with a surprising pathos towards the end. Having said that, I was a massive King junkie at the time. I'd say reading the Shining and It would give you a greater tolerance for his more disposable novels. Once upon a time Eli Roth was attached to direct a Cell film. 17…

I dunno, the human flesh gag was pretty great. Maybe I'd just had solid recommendations on it so I had faith it would get good and could just relax and enjoy the oddness. Now Community, there's a show that took its sweet time getting started
