I played LOTR Risk at a friend's 21st last week, until we all got a little bit too drunk to play. It was pretty fun, though I wouldn't say it was better than normal Risk.

I didn't watch a lot because of catching up with family and friends, but I did watch Atlantic City. Louis Malle's style was impeccable as always, and the script and performances were very good. I especially liked Burt Lancaster, and thought it was hilarious when Wallace Shawn popped up as a waiter. I kept expecting

It was a lot stronger in the talky scenes than in the fight scenes as well, because in the fight scenes the movement was jittery. It really seems like a great format for filming plays anyway.

On the movie front, I watched Le Cercle Rogue, Dick Tracy and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

I loved the Y2K episode. I think having them believe the apocalypse has occurred and act accordingly is more entertaining than preparing for an apocalypse which doesn't happen.

Holes isn't bad as a movie, but I preferred the book when I read it in Year 8. The book has a slightly more serious tone, while the movie is very much on the Goonies side of things.

On the movie front, I watched Lola Montes and Skyfall, as well as a theatrical screening of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Fair enough. I loved it, and found the anthology approach held the film together well enough for me and a lot of the segments were bursting with excitement and fun (except for the musical number, which I thought was a hilarious example of a terrible number until I later found out it was supposed to be moving).

Another great classical example is Iberia by Albeniz. It is a beautiful suite (especially Rondena, which uses the huapango rhythm popularised by Bernstein in "America") and full of delicate contrasts between joyful and melancholic.
