On the movie front I watched Sleepy Hollow, Looper and Shall we Dance.

I don't think I was quite clear above. I loved the Shostakovich Symphony. It was a very intense experience.

I love the Thing and it's definitely the best Carpenter film I've seen. It's a very simple story underneath all the flash - guys being stalked by creature in remote location - but I think that he tells it very well and that the great practical effects serve the story.

I would say in Angel's case that the improvement in season 2 has to do with realising that as a show it can do things tonally that Buffy can't. Season 1 has a different atmosphere, but either tells the same kind of monster-of-the-week stories or tries too hard to make metaphorical points about "serious" adult issues…

Promising start to the new season. I didn't realise how much I missed watching the show until I was about halfway through the episode.

The first season definitely isn't perfect, but it comes together towards the end. In many ways it's stronger than the first season of Buffy, though neither are particularly good.

The forehead branding just seemed part of the slavery aspects, and didn't affect me quite as much as some of the other stuff.

In New Zealand, things can still occasionally take days to download. Granted, those are 1080p blurays, but the internet speeds are still not as reliable (or reliably fast) as they should be.

I love "Spin the Bottle", and have occasionally re-watched "The House Always Wins" and "Home" but haven't seen any of the others since I first watched them (before I'd seen Buffy, because 15-year-old me didn't like the sounds of a show called Buffy the Vampire Slayer). The only reason I started this re-watch is…
