Did you only watch early episodes of Angel? I can't imagine anyone who watched most of the series describing Wes as insipid.

Not entirely true. Eliza Coupe (Denise) was promoted to full cast member for the final season which saw most of the cast exiting the show.
I mean, I love Community as much as the next guy but it's cancellation has virtually nothing to do with this show.
So we know Russell Hantz has at least 3 more relatives locked in as future contestants.
