Just adding to the chorus and say keep on with the Antonioni! Red Desert and L'eclisse are two of my favourite films. He's a bit like Tarkovsky, where I was originally left a little cold by some of his films, but now I enjoy getting lost and letting the images wash over me.

Congratulations- fantastic to Hear!
I suppose we've seen our lest epic recap from THIS Ben Folds Fan..

This is one of my favorite threads in a lo—

Thanks for the heads up about the Matt Pryor podcast! It'd be interesting to get an Emo WTF. I was so young when all of that stuff was going down, and the internet wasn't yet the anecdote warehouse it is now.
About as niche as it gets, I'm sure, but us few shall enjoy the tumble down memory lane.

I'm going to have to see get on that ASAP- The Dream Team was a formative comedy experience for young mr. waves.

@avclub-de4a08d644135b09bd7e1a592dff156b:disqus I had a similar experience with Defending Your Life. Lesson learned- Mushrooms turn me into a big baby!

They reviewed it in the dvd/film section a couple weeks ago, and there was some discussion in the comments. I've been trying to take it slow and not blow my load immediately, but I'm getting to the 50s now and it's SOO good!

Two Mishima plugs from Craig in two days! I really gotta see this movie!
I'm a big fan of his writing, but don't know much about the man and have put off watching this movie until I get through his brography..but I think you've pushed this to the front of my queue. Fingers Crossed it's still on Hulu!

@avclub-c9be0674ead9b2448c14d31c64f2b01b:disqus I just noticed they've been doing 40% off new blu-rays after the last sale, and snagged Sunday Bloody Sunday and Brazil for half-off with the membership 10%. Unfortunately, this pricing did not apply to Two Lane Blacktop when I went by yesterday : (

Just here to pile on the Huell love. Everyone has their stories of running into him, and he really was the genuine article. My grandpa lives out in Yucca Valley and Huell used to regularly drop by the Jelly Donut to mix it up with the regulars. ("friendly fellow, but a little light in the loafers..")
As a younger man I

Kids on the Slope- great gateway for both Anime and Jazz for the uninformed, and maybe the best thing I saw in 2012!
I can't give much more- I'm still just starting to catch up with long-time canon-fodder like the Wire, Cowboy Bebop, Twin Peaks, let alone try an episode of Breaking Bad!

Listened to Safe As Milk last night- good golly! This would have hooked me years ago! Seems so much more accessible than his later accessible stuff.
Thanks for the tip- total blind spot all these years!

That's what gets me- I love prog, fusion, etc. so sometimes I'll hear something and it's right up my alley, but like clockwork the next piece is terrible.

Did you guys know when you were ready for Beefheart?
I've had Trout Mask Replica for years, but have been content to play a side once and awhile and leave it at that. Last summer I heard a Lightning Hopkins track and, mistaking it for Beefheart, suddenly just knew that my previous cold shower would be a nice warm bath.

I'd say follow your interests! The packaging, transfer, content, etc. on Criterion's is generally fantastic, so it's not like you'll pick a lemon or anything. Red Desert and Solaris served as my intro to HD, and I was absolutely stunned, but even less "cinematic" films like Dazed and Confused or Rushmore have looked

If this group is a third rate Fall Out Boy, how many licks would it take to get to a good band?!?
Each generation has its own pop-culture axe to grind, I'm sure, but I'll forever lament that the already-debased and mildly embarrassing punk and emo of my generation has further mutated into this sort of stuff.

Him SCREAMING at Holly Hunter in the final third tears me to shreds. I still think it's the most real/vulnerable moment he's ever played.

There's something glorious about the Beatles in that middle stretch- I can never keep a favorite lp locked down! Rubber Soul catches you with it's mod/motown vibes (probably the least beatles-y album in their catalogue) but does it beat Revolver?
I'm probably a White Album guy overall, but I do get quite a kick from

You shoulda stopped by- let me know next time!

I feel like I'm constantly screaming about how I hate each character now! DO SOMETHING!
Although I guess Mrs. Patmore remains golden..
