Our house just started the Wire in the last few months. We were all virgins and now we're about to start Season 3. Highly recommended.
I get red in the face every episode, and if I'm having wine I become especially surly. That's how great this show is.

The fear and the dread that's drawn upon stems from the death of a loved one, and that's more realistic than the immutable evil that manifests itself as a clown, or the sweet boy in class that turns out to be an evil cat.
But yes, it's very silly. Fred Gwynne and Kindegarten Cop Kid are the most competent cast members.
