Terrible. I love black metal and jawbreaker but this didn't pull the Reese's I was looking for. Making a cover song relevant is an impossible balancing act, and adding reverb to the guitars and extra shards of glass to the vocals doesn't justify the weight.

Chugging and a-Grooving away- I didn't even think of that! I'm sure it's a little bit of both.
Anyone interested yet unaware of the million dance/electronic genres should graciously piggyback off of Chrissy's past wiki-work:

Okay guys, repeat after me: we're relevant, we're relevant, we're…

Who'd've thought, right? One day our next generation will gather at the corner of Seacrest Ave. and Kardashian Dr. to receive the dictatorial marketing speech. (broadcast from SeaTV right into our gummy domes)

Each No Doubt song/single has felt like some sort of case study. I feel like they bring so much cultural baggage with them that it's almost irrelevant whether the song succeeds or not. They obviously don't belong to the current, nor do they stick to their guns and become some sort of retro-fetish unit. Some sort of

Marah- I really appreciate the work you've been doing on the weekly. I'm not sure what your music background is, but your tastes in this column have run a pretty wide gamut without being deeply offensive to any audience members. You've offered things that could use a little push without regurgitating the standard pr

Maybe it's time to revisit Blue? I've grown to appreciate it more over the years, and I think of Carey being a mean old daddy from time to time, but I still don't understand why that's the album that gets pushed so often. It has been a few years, so maybe my ears will be kinder now?

Worst song by far. Bummer that most folks think of that when they think of her. They might know Help Me or Free Man in Paris, but I don't think it gets attributed to the same degree.

Have you heard Thundercat's album? If you're a Jaco fan it may catch your fancy. Between him and FlyLo and some of the other Brainfeeder guys it really seems that fusion/funk is en vouge and experiencing a bit of a modern bump.

If you have a record player you can pick up her back catalogue on the cheap. For the Roses was the one that broke me after trying Blue and not feeling it. She's really funky and that can be a little off-putting, but she's completely herself. You find strains of her in so many eccentric auteurs over the last twenty
