Yeah, sounds like Rabin had only seen 3 films.  He didn't mention the true "why its daunting" is that the Meyer estate charges 60 bucks for a DVD.  AVClub does often come up short with its film history.

I was big horror fan as a kid, but totally skipped the YA scene and went straight to King, Barker, Ed Lee, and others in Elementary to Middle School.  My mom probably had her qualms, but more importantly I reading at an adult level!
