I think you may be misremembering Image of the Fendahl. It's decidedly creepy and straightforward, with virtually no comedy at all. And some scenes are downright chilling, with everyone giving their best effort.

That's exactly it. This album is a roughly 50-50 split between Brian Wilson and Mike Love, which means half of it is glorious and melancholy, and the other half is tropical-themed bullshit for the old folks at Six Flags. The good stuff is quite good, the bad stuff is terrible.
