DFW would've hated it too, but then again, one of the things that made him so fascinating was his discerning taste that bordered on hatred of everything but Roger Federer's tennis abilities.

The actual version is undoubtedly better than this alteration, but I still think it's really uncanny how much it sounds like MJ. The added vocal tics make it sound like a really cool impossible collaboration.
Just to clear things up—I believe the press release that announced Grimm's move to Tuesdays said it would begin April 30th. I could be wrong, but I believe that's the start date for the move to Tuesdays.
It may have aired on the east coast at that time, but it didn't air on the west coast, or at least not in any of the Portland/Reno/San Francisco markets where I knew people watching. It was a really spotty broadcast, which is why we decided to punt the review to next week when it airs across the country.
Grimm, as well as several other shows on the big 3 networks, got bumped b/c of news coverage in Boston, though the episode aired in Canada and somehow in some select markets. Since it got bumped to next Friday, and that's when I'll be able to see it, that's when the review will go up. Hope that clears everything up!
Too real.
I'm cool with that. I could've gone with the first two Beatles records my parents bought me on CD when I was learning to sing as a kid (Hard Day's Night/Sgt. Pepper), but that seemed like a total copout. I wanted to pick the first album that I could remember being released for the first time that I loved, and that…
I want to believe he didn't commit suicide by unknowing firing squad, and I think there's more than enough evidence to support either way of looking at it, considering all the shots of Cooper in that moment are so focused on him beating down that other guy with the gun that he doesn't really come out of the haze right…
Too bad End Of Watch is already taken, because damn, that would be a sweet subtitle for a final 90-minute Southland TV movie.
This is fair, although now that Renard is familiar with Monroe, I doubt any suspicion from Wu would gain traction in the department. Though some enterprising crime journalist might take note that some random clockmaker seems to be involved a bit too often in violent and strange crimes around Portland…
We considered it, but ultimately left it out precisely for that reason. It's still an amazing book though, and definitely worth a read.
I really didn't discern that much of a difference b/w American Dad and Family Guy tonight. Sure, I didn't like a lot of the Peter material, but I didn't like much of the Roger/Stan/Hayley plot, and found the insistent asian mother stereotyping more annoying. Still, I laughed more at AD, so…that explains the grades.
This. All of this. I have never heard anyone argue for poorer visual quality as a means of masking bad CGI. That's backwards and ridiculous.
This is what James Franco would do if given the ability to time-travel.
I didn't put one in this week because I never really had that sort of jump-out-of-my-seat feeling, but if I had to pick a moment, it's the cut that goes from Cooper running in that tunnel to the 180 reverse showing Dewey splayed out on the ground.
This is one of the few things in my notes that didn't make it into the review. The lack of a soundtrack is one of my favorite stylistic elements on Southland, and that shot in particular really made the power of that choice noticeable.
This is a really good point—and I wonder if it has something to do with how Cooper doesn't address his sexuality often. It's mostly suggested in oblique ways, but last season's standout episode "Legacy" had him talking down a kid who was struggling with coming out. It was the most personal episode of the season for…
In the media blitz about directing an episode, Regina King has brought it up a lot. Apparently she and some of the other actors and writers are disappointed in TNT's lack of promotional support for the show. But honestly, with a slowly declining viewership and little awards recognition, that's not all that surprising.…
Ack! Copy/Paste! Will be fixed in a moment.
Screeners are a beautiful thing.
