Public service announcement: BOBW parts I and II in theaters April 25th!! I am as excited as it is possible to be about watching 25 year old tv episodes in a movie theater.

You're right about the "planet of hats" thing, which is a really hard trope to subvert when it's such easy visual shorthand for viewers! I guess I was more impressed that outdoor scenes actually seemed to be outdoors and that the dance club seemed properly packed. Which seems like damning with faint praise, but isn't

As a first-time viewer I really enjoyed both episodes - the scope of the alien planet in TGIFA impressed me compared to the (sorry, trek!) mall food-court style alien planets of TNG, and I also enjoyed the design of the sheyang ship (cool scene when the torpedoes were loaded out of that circular pattern).

Your absence has been roundly lamented in the DS9 reviews - it's good to have you back in the comments section of any space opera, though!

Also for obvious reasons I am tickled by the dentic

Another newbie here! I can't believe EFG could be seen as a "weak" episode - I am fully hooked and now just fighting the urge to mainline the whole show in one sitting. I am super super excited to follow along with the AVC.

This is a killer medical ethics conversation, and as a huge Bashir fan I'm digging it a lot! Just thought it was worth pointing out that there actually is a real-world analogue for Bashir's behavior, which is electro-shock therapy for people with severe refractory depression. As someone else mentioned, suicidality can

That's a fruit! Sorry, someone had to be the obnoxious geek to do that. :)

I never thought Cirroc Lofton was a bad child actor. Jake always seemed like a real kid to me, which was a nice touch.

Jake may not have been as big a character as Bashir/Dax/Odo/O'Brien etc, but I think he's well characterized and a nice addition to the cast. He's basically an anti-Wesley - a decent, goofy kid, not a precocious super genius. I think his relationship with his dad is really well done, and the scenes where we see that

It does seem like the Federation in general doesn't seem to value privacy that much - Doctor-patient confidentiality definitely doesn't exist in Trek, at least. Every time a character is in sickbay, it seems there's a conversation in which the doctor describes the character's state to the character's coworkers,

Sorry, @avclub-da2cfbc3287da0f4f985aa7350b8831b:disqus  - you've got quite a few seasons to go for "In Purgatory's Shadow/By Inferno's Light." It's worth the wait, though, especially for a couple totally awesome plots twists.

Aw c'mon, if "The Visitor" doesn't put a little misty something in your eye, you've got a heart of stone!
