Im ok with anyone being a willing sex object. What the fuck is wrong with selling sex? What the fuck is wrong with selling yourself as a sex object?

yes, because I responded to it because I think it's bullshit. That emotionally draining thing, it's also exhausting on my end when I feel like im really trying to intellectualize something, and someone disregards that process entirely.

Of course feelings are real and don't make it impossible to see clearly. But it cant be:

my problem is that I clicked on this article because I wanted to see who was jizzing on stuff

This is, of course, the classic hackneyed argument men and women have, that smart men learn to let go.

Do you really think it's wrong to sell sex? That there's something inherently bad about selling someone's sex appeal? If not, then why is it a problem for that person's defining feature to be their sex appeal? I understand how it can be especially fraught for women, but intrinsically, it seems perfectly fair. Child

I can accept that, and it's perfectly great to make fun of a writer being an idiot. I just don't think selling sex is something that needs to be purged from society, or that having someone's celebrity subsumed within the larger idea of their hotness is inherently wrong

I don't know if that's true. Lebron isn't one of the tallest 10,000 people in the world. His being tall is like Robbie's breasts—an entire article about Robbie's breasts, ok, excessive.

So your entire post is this pity party and/or self-defeating prophecy of "I know no one is gonna pay attention to this, but thanks for making me sad internet"

My point is that as long as we're selling sex, why shouldn't it be? Her sex appeal is almost certainly the variable that made her famous, so why wouldn't her sex appeal be her defining trait? More than anything, Margot Robbie is the LeBron James of being hot. That's her superpower.

I think the important thing to realize is that the (completely hypothetical) moment we stop selling women as sex objects, women like Margot Robbie are no longer on these covers. I don't actually think there's anything wrong with the media selling sex, but the vast majority of these women ascended to fame with the

Owen Wilson, as in everything he did in the first half of his career, improves the movie in every scene he's in

Being from NJ, liking Ska and metal (possibly hardcore?) Do you remember the NJ Hardcore/Ska band Folly?

Oh, i agree. But i have a pet peeve when people make a gatekeeper argument into a artist argument. To me, attacking Bendis here is like saying Django should be given to a black director.

real easy to be snarky. I'm entirely sincere here. What is the historical issue?

dead serious, what might be that issue

Bendis is one of the biggest names in comic writing though. It's not like Marvel made this decision and hired him to do it. The decision probably originated with Bendis.

It's kind of ridiculous thought that Bendis, who is the one making this change, is attacked for being white. These twitter complaints are that what? He should quit his job and give it to a black woman?

I don't know if this is exclusively a feature of counterculture (punk, metal, ska) white people, but they don't want their interests to be some niche white male thing. Even ignorance has a friendliness to it—I can imagine 14 year old me seeing a black guy at a ska show and thinking he must be the coolest guy here.

For example, taking the umlaut from Husker Du, and nothing else
