It doesn't bug me as much in The Red Mass because SCOTUS is just a backdrop. But later, when the Court is a plot point, and a big deal is made out of the fact that the old Chief Justice was the only real liberal, it was kind of annoying.

I always thought the most likely path for Sam was to either win the election or stay in the district and run again in two years, work his way through CA politics, and run for President in a decade or so, just like Bartlet predicted.
