Yeah, maybe.I just really have trouble believing he couldn't have found out if he'd wanted to. But if they didn't want him there, it's another matter entirely.

Err, let's be clear here- the 1996 Yankees' starters for the WS were Pettite, Key, Cone, and Rogers. That's one guy who started with the Yankees. In 1998 was better with only Wells being a newbie, 1999 had 2 out of the 4 as homegrown. 2000 had no starting pitchers that began their career with the Yankees. 6 out of 16-

Wait, so what's the story, he didn't know when it was, or the family didn't want him there? The second one, at least, would be a legit reason.

We're talking about "clutch" now? I can't remember, what's the run down, do we hit "leadership" next or "plays the game the right way"? Wake me when we get to "determined".

"homegrown" is a dodge. In the modern era of free agency, there's nothing special about the team that brought you up. Prince Fielder isn't going to be hanging out with Bob Eucker much longer. A-Rod (notably absent from your list) left Seattle in his rear-view when the Rangers offered him a big pay day. In fact, to

Although, sometimes, I kinda feel like Star Wars and Doctor Who aren't even science fiction at all, especially New Who.

I don't think the prequels negate the original trilogy, though. The closest it comes is how hard it is to get the original trilogy in a modern format without all of Lucas' subsequent clutter.

"Being a student is fun."

Yeah, I'm no real fan of Fight Club, but even it used the "what was real/what was fake" stuff to further it's ideas. I'm not sure SP even had an idea it was trying to convey- there was a speech about empowerment, but it felt pretty tacked on to me, and the layers of reality didn't really tie into it.

Well, except he also pointed out that the audience is primed to laugh at everything, through warm-up acts, good music, sugary food, etc.

I think the fact that now only one network bothers with laugh track shows- whereas 15 years ago, it was pretty much every comedy- is a lot more telling than the success of two shows.

"but I don't recall a lot of after the fact defenses.  "

"Why does no one label a particular actor or performer a failure or circular talker when he/she goes on Letterman or whatever and completely embarrasses him/herself?  It happens all the time."

That's kind of the problem- it's pretty gross to minimize rape to "not that serious". And it makes it much harder to enjoy the video game parts when the stakes are, "If the girls are unsuccessful, they will be raped and murdered. And if they're successful, they'll probably be raped and murdered anyway."

The fact that he purposely made a bad movie doesn't change the fact that it's a bad movie.

Well, whether a director can do important work after he turns 45 or not (and I'd say he can, why not?), the point is, Snyder has a definite body of work, and we can judge that and draw conclusions from it, we don't need to wait until he's done a dozen movies, or two dozen, or whatever. Yes, he may grow and change as a

All of those questions have pretty explicit answers on the screen. The last one's a little tricky because the film tries and fails to convince you that this was Abbie Cornish's story, but even as bullshit as that is, it's still an explicit answer. So no, none of those questions are particularly mind blowing.

That IS about as well written as any of her books, so, maybe!

I dunno, I thought they did a pretty good job separating out the terrorist from his day job- in fact, I'm pretty sure they used that exact phrase. The West Wing didn't really 'go to war" against Quatar until season 5, and hell, by then, the train had left the station…

The "Amy rallies her troops scene" is so annoying, I still have trouble watching MLP on TV (which is a problem, since she's gorgeous).
