I get the feeling that Wyman thinks this season is about "family," and so it is and has always been on Fringe - but it was always about science too, and the ethics of scientific discovery, and thoughtful "what if" scenarios.  It's not just supposed to be a soap with special effects.

The death of Etta herself isn't so upsetting.  It's the death of the potential Peter-Etta relationship that is disappointing.  Olivia-Etta too, but I loved that Peter himself was now a dad.  Now he's just a grieving wounded dad.

Fringe killed off Charlie, killed off Lincoln Lee… all for good story causes if you ask me.  Killing off Etta better matter more than just  a few episodes' worth of angst for Peter and Olivia, though.  It needs to be a sacrifice that actually meant something.

I hope that's so.  I would like to see this season gain some more thematic depth that calls back to the show's history on more than a surface level.  Here's hoping.

This was a high quality episode, but while the resurrected Fringe event
was awesome, I can't figure out what we're supposed to look forward to
