Having followed Alec Baldwin's youtube link: it looks like surfers are really into the Hoodoo Gurus. There appears to be a surf movie cut to every one of their singles.

And on the topic of Hoodoo Gurus: Night Must Fall shuffled its way onto my iPod on my drive home, and it dawned on me that Dave Faulkner has the best diction in the history of rock music.

YOU AM I

You've never heard of Joni Mitchell?

Yeah, American TV is fucked up like that. Even your soap operas are about preposterously wealthy people. What's with that?

YOU AM I

Good to see "intensive purposes" called out already. Goddamn.

Yeah, they committed less genocide when colonising New Zealand because the Maori were well-organised, had social hierarchies more recognisable to the English, and, most importantly, were pretty good at kicking the living shit out of the English on a few occasions.

It's funny that someone contrasted 'Marge Be Not Proud' with the "Scully-territory" of 'Grift of the Magi', because I just looked up 'Marge Be Not Proud' to see what episode it was, and discovered it was, in fact, written by one Mike Scully.

The Lost Continent is my favourite of his. Why do people hate it? Because he has a crack at small town America for being pretty ugly, and populated by a healthy smattering of fairly small-minded people. Pretty non-contentious opinions, I would've thought?

I've only ever been to Paris, but have been on a few occasions, and found everyone there lovely. My French is shithouse. I repeatedly butchered the few sentences I thought I knew, but it did not matter. Everyone I encountered ranged from polite-but-formal to very friendly, save for one security guard, but that's their

"Misery porn", "white liberal guilt", blah blah blah
Bizarre comments. I don't know what sort of movie you expect someone to make about the Territory settlements around Alice Springs. For the most part, they're pretty miserable places, with uninteresting but intractable problems.

I rather liked this film. It did an exceptional job of capturing the way there is pretty much nothing to do in the outback townships.

Wait this thread is older than I thought. Nevermind.

Shore Patrols criticisms are good, but he comes pretty close to simplifying some things and glossing over others just as much as an Emperor Jim-style "WWII was a great war!" I think…

I don't get the "hating her voice" thing at all. It seems to be to be quite pleasant? I've always found it to be, anyway.

fastandsloppy: You are quite right. I apologise.

Yeah, straight up. I'm also wondering how the ratings system will work once it hits the first stone-cold classic episode, considering the scores that were being handed out for S1.

I'm not sure if the joke keeps running, but one of my favourite gags from early in the season (Rancho Relaxo episode) is the fact that Arnie Pye's traffic report is called "Arnie in the Sky".

The 2nd season is exceptional. My personal favourite. Looking forward to the write-ups of that season more than any other. I reckon that's when the satire was at its sharpest and most intelligent.
