This technique is as old as the hills. Back in the day even the Who did it. Moon wore an earpiece with a click so they could use the signature keyboard part on Baba O'Reilly and Won't Get Fooled Again.

Two points - and, again, I'm a fan of Phoenix. First, the drummer is wearing an earpiece, you can see a wire going up the back of his neck when he bends down in certain shots. Second, if his vocal was being doubled by a delay or some other digital effect, it would be a perfect double - a clone double. If you listen he

Why are you so sure they were live, Karlos? I was listening thru my stereo speakers and it was pretty clearly taped. Way too clean, no room ambience at all, no breaths…and double tracked! So at the very least he was singing along with himself.

Big fan of Phoenix but was put off by obvious lip-sync by lead singer. Uh, guys, one voice can't be double-tracked! Ruined the whole thing for me. Entertainment is a great single, though. Tix went on sale for their national tour, might skip it if the dude ain't got the balls to sing live.

And let me set the battlements on fire!

Finally!

Strummer was a shit singer. Maybe he was cool, the music was good, maybe he had charisma, maybe the Clash stood for something etc…..but he was a shit singer. So was Mick Fucking Jones. Not only an extremely shit singer, but the biggest fucking poser with the most punchable face in rock. Seems I've gone off on a

Agree. Not sure I agree with Mr. Byrne, who is one of my favorite singers, but it is an interesting POV.

that pretty weird! But he did say one interesting/relevant thing" "The better a singers voice the harder it is to believe what they're saying". Wow, never thought of it that way.

I'll jump on this thread as well - ALL ART is about one thing - conveying emotion. A painting, a play, a film, a sculpture, a song. The great singers are able convey emotion and make you FEEL something. Something real, something sincere, not something phony or hyped up.

A, I don't know what "woosh" or "whoosh" means.
2. Never said that Flansy wasn't a great songwriter too! IMO for the first 10 years they were equals as songwriters but over the years I think its clear that Linnel's contributions are the greater of the two. On a couple albums there I don't think Flansy contributed a

Linnell is the real musical genius of the two, and Flansburgh is the real showman and promoter, the P.T. Barnum if you will.

When I was in London last year I saw an absolutely stunning production of Sweeny starring Imelda Staunton and Michael Ball. It was a revelation and turned me into a Sondheim fan.

One of the greatest shows of all time. If it's impossible to name THE greatest sitcom, it must be mentioned in the top five.

@drewogatory - when'd yr mom get a tattoo?

Sing it sister!

I love the fact that the expression is "with the butt" as opposed to "in the butt". Just the phrase "with the butt" has me cackling to myself like a madman.

ya got me Cliffy ;)
