"In the late '60s, horror was a joke, an adolescent indulgence ripe with easily identifiable cliches"
What a ridiculous dismissal of an entire decade's worth of output. Not only is this equally true of the 1970s (gothic horrors starring down-on-their-luck American actors still represent most of the genre output well

Why would anyone expect this to be good?
The last really decent John Carpenter film was made in 1994. He's made 4 mediocre to terrible films since then. Why is ANYONE surprised that this one is like the last 4?

Anyone who thinks that "Enter the Dragon", "Godzilla", "Hard Boiled", "The Seven Samurai", "After Life" and "Late Spring" are all essentially the same film is just a fucking moron. Stop dignifying that bullshit with serious responses.

Seriously??? What's wrong with acknowledging the fact that the work someone has done this year is really the culmination of an entire career and acknowledging that fact? Arguably … but not very arguably … A LOT of awards are partly legacy awards. I would say that Colin Firth's award this year and

You wondered what ever happened to him even though he starred in "The Ghost Writer" last year?

It's not implied. Do you even know what the word "implied" means?

"finally available on DVD"?
"Santa Sangre" has been available on DVD since 2004. It was released on DVD by Anchor Bay in the UK.

"Black Swan" was better than both films.
